PALMSHIELD ARCHITECTURAL SCREENING
PalmSHIELD has been in the business of designing, engineering, and installing architectural screening and mechanical screening enclosures in Rochester, MN for more than fifty years – along with mechanical equipment enclosures, commercial and industry gates, rooftop screenings, and architectural screening. Our handiwork can be observed from the Grand Canyon to Yellowstone Forest. There is a good reason why PalmSHIELD has become known as the ultimate architectural equipment screening solution in the Midwest.
Picture Frame Design
Picture Frame Design is utilized by PalmSHIELD for designing gates, rooftop screening, and architectural screening. Thanks to this process, each panel is build rigid enough to stand alone, without twisting and warping out of shape, and is also easy to remove and reinstall should the need arise. With this method, your PalmSHIELD panels also have superior ventilation. PalmSHIEL can be also be configured as screens, rooftop screenings, grills, and gates (swing gates as well as slide gates).
The industry leader in cable railing systems, PalmSHIELd fabricates both both exterior and interior application systems. Having been in the business more than fifty years, we know a lot about cable railings and have furthermore designed a system of our own. Welded frame design or field assembled design can be modified for changes in direction as well as elevation. Having a fully framed system is essential, because cable railing needs at least 10 cables to be tightened to a pull force exceeding half a ton. Without a full frame, system failure could occur.
Gorilla Hinge is an original line of industrial hinge designed by PalmSHIELD. It uses 1/2″ plates to mount gates and gate posts and features a slight offset to allow the gate to shut slightly past the full close point. This helps avoid the conundrum when gate post are accidentally set a fraction of an inch off the mark and the gate cannot close perfectly. As the number one gate contractor in Rochester, we believe it is up to us to help work around common problems customers experience with gates and fences.
PalmSHIELD’s louvered screening is custom fabricated to each application, allowing end users to select the amount of visibility and air flow by varying louver spacing. Louvers may be placed vertically, horizontally or even diagonally.
PalmSHIELD is unique in providing the industries’ widest louver:
- .1250 thickness
- 2” x 2.873” tall installed profile
Not only does the PalmSHIELD louver have a larger profile, but the entire profile is sloped providing better airflow and less visibility. We offer a wide arrange of perforated metal, square welded or woven wire mesh and grating infill options.
Only PalmSHIELD uses 3” x 3” x ¼” angle vertical supports. Each louver is welded to the vertical supports. Our welded wire mesh, grating and perforated metal is shop welded to meet all IBC and UBC codes. Because of the larger vertical support, PalmSHIELD provides a 2 ¾” weldable surface to attach louvers to the frame. We use this same robust frame for most of our architectural screening.
What makes PalmSHIELD the very best architectural screening system in Rochester, MN is the use of a 3” x 3” x ¼” angle top and bottom caps. Most systems do not provide a rigid top cap. A top cap is critical in protecting the panel from falling debris, hail, etc. while the bottom cap protects the screening from foot traffic and mowers. The vertical supports and horizontal caps are welded together to form the industry’s only picture frame design.
PalmSHIELD uses a 2” x 1/8” aluminum flat bar not to exceed 24” apart to support the louvers between the framework. This support prevents intruders from attempting to spread the louvers apart to gain access.
Larger than most systems, PalmSHIELD uses a 4” square x ¼” or 3/8” wall post. The larger and thicker walled posts is suited for high wind and snow loads. Posts typically do not exceed 60” on center.
All nuts, bolts and fasteners are stainless steel. If swing gates are incorporated into your system, only our Gorilla Hinges are used.
After fabrication is completed, all materials are carefully sweep blasted and powder coated. The most important part to any coating system is the preparation of the materials. Sweep blasting removes any foreign debris and opens the aluminum up for adhesion. Custom colors are available. PalmSHIELD uses polyester powder coating in accordance with material hardness ASTM 3363 2H.
